In the weeks leading up to the event, I was in a bit of a rush to finish all three of my robots for Motorama this year. All of them had small issues that could've been solved with a little more time, but that's part of the nature of the competition. You can always spend more time fixing things before an event. All three robots I brought ended up doing very well over all and I was very happy with my overall performance at the event.
I don't have many fight videos at this time. This update includes what I have been able to find from other builders that have graciously taken the time to upload the videos. There aren't a ton of visuals for the amount of fights I had, since I had multiple bots going at a time usually. But this should provide a breakdown of each robots performance and areas for improvement in their next iterations.
Hercules
Swamp Woman
All Defense
Fire Arrow v3
Slim Pickens
Hercules ended up 2-2 for the day. Which was definitely a little disappointing, given that it won the entire competition last year. But, like I said before, part of this is luck of the draw of the tournament. Hercules does better against spinners than it does against pure wedges, which were its only two losses. So I'm not that upset. For the future I plan to make some revisions, including dropping to 2S LiPo from 3S that should make it a little easier to control, as well as try and fix the magnets so that they actually stick me to the ground, instead of m opponents.
El Tigre
Unknown Avenger
Quicksand
Chuck
Captain Doom
Just a Wedge
Scrappy
This ended El Tigre's run at 4-2, which is really impressive for its first event, especially since it was Motorama. For the future there is very little I need to change. I need to bring more spare teeth, increase the battery discharge rate, and likely do a little weight reduction to make that happen. But overall I'm very happy with how this robot performed. For being a robot I threw together to fit the Fingertech beater bar kit I won from Moto 2017, I think it came out very well.
Butcher
In the week before the event, I was rushing to finish the pulleys for the weapon motor. Unfortunately I miscalculated the belt length and had to run to the store to get some replacement V belts. Unfortunately, the local Grainger didn't have the exact length I needed, so I opted to go with a smaller belt that ran right on the can of the motor with a cut up pulley glued onto the can to prevent the belt from slipping off. This somewhat worked, but definitely not as well as it could have. Butcher had some other issues that I will get into later, but overall I was very happy with its performance. I thought this was the first event that I feel that the weapon was finally at full power. And it was evident with some of the hits it dealt out.
Nothing Special
Large Data
First Contact
Clown Fiesta
Minor Threat 3
His n Hers
Predator
Steel n Shock
I have a lot of things to work on for next year, but I hope to be able to have time to actually take pictures and update this blog this time around. More posts to come soon.
